Promulgated by Andrew II of Hungary 800 years ago, the Golden Bull (1222) is the best known but also most misunderstood medieval Hungarian document. The book analyses the reform policies that served as the background to the Golden Bull, the circumstances of the bull's conception, the events leading to its renewal in 1231, and the consequences of that revision. Finally, the afterlife of the Golden Bull in the medieval period is explored.
Attila Zsoldos is a member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He works at the Institute of History of the Research Centre for the Humanities (Budapest, Hungary). His main fields of interest are the social and political history and the institutions of 11-14th-century Hungary.


A 800 évvel ezelőtt II. András által kihirdetett Aranybulla (1222) a legismertebb, de egyben a leginkább félreértett középkori magyar dokumentum. A kötet szerzője elemzi az Aranybulla hátteréül szolgáló reformpolitikát, a bulla megszületésének körülményeit, az 1231-es megújításához vezető eseményeket és a felülvizsgálat következményeit, végül az Aranybulla középkori utóéletét vizsgálja.
