The author is a garden designer and university lecturer who studied, among other places, at the Royal Botanic Gardens of Kew in London. She was born in the U. S. but has lived in Hungary for many years. In 2007 she received her Ph. D. from the Faculty of Landscape Architecture from Budapest Corvinus University and currently practices her profession in Budapest, designing gardens and consulting on public space rehabilitation. She also teaches in the landscape architecture faculty. She has visited gardens and public spaces in nearly all corners of the world, and while her knowledge of Budapest would put most locals to shame, her perspective still remains that of the outsider. Because she has no inborn knowledge of the city, thus she views its spaces with an unbiased eye. The ten squares in the book were selected by her alone, and she reveals only those stories or facts that she considers important, interesting or special for each one. Her critiques and observations reveal her deep curiosity and passion - both personal and professional - for the city spaces of the present and the future. Readers are cordially invited to enjoy the city through her eyes.
